Sofia and Her Magic Piggy Bank is a bilingual, family-centered picture book about a young girl growing up in a multicultural home in East Boston with her Argentine mamá and Brazilian papai. When Sofia overhears her parents talking about “savings,” she sets out to understand what it means to spend, save, and share.
Through warm family moments, small everyday lessons, and her new piggy bank marked in both Spanish and Portuguese, Sofia learns how money can help her reach her dreams, support others, and build toward her future. The story blends cultural traditions, three languages, and practical financial education in a way that feels accessible and joyful for young readers and parents alike.
This book introduces core money concepts through relatable scenarios, early empowerment, and the excitement of planning for big dreams. It is designed for families who want to teach healthy financial habits early while also celebrating multicultural identity, language, and heritage.

Our
Vision
We wrote Sofia and Her Magic Piggy Bank for the children we were once.
Growing up in Latino households, money was something we felt the impact of, but rarely talked about openly. We learned about sacrifice, hard work, and resilience, but we were not always given the language or tools to understand how money worked or how to advocate for our own financial future.
As adults, we both saw how early that gap starts and we wanted to change that story.
This book is our way of giving children a safe, joyful, and culturally grounded introduction to money. A way to show that saving, sharing, and dreaming are not just financial lessons, but life lessons. A way to help kids see that money can be a tool for confidence, opportunity, and choice.
Sofia represents so many children who grow up between languages, cultures, and worlds. We wanted her story to feel familiar, warm, and empowering. We wanted families to see themselves in her home, her questions, and her curiosity.
Most of all, we wanted to make financial education feel human, accessible, and inclusive from the very beginning.
With love,
Mariana & Angi
